Run to the Mill

What kind of chosen bun(rab) doesn't like a good bagel? Not me. When I want good NY-style deli food, I unleash my inner rabbi(t) and coast over to Miller's.

The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable. They are quick to get the food out to you and make you feel right at home.

It's super casual and tidy. It's not a tablecloth kind of place, think upscale cafeteria with table service.

Premium Fish combo ($16.95):
You get to choose three types of fish with this combo. I chose the Nova lox, the smoked whitefish and the sturgeon. If fish is brain food, then I must be a supah-genius. The tasty lox, thick slices of sturgeon and watch-out-for-the-bones-but-it's-worth-it whitefish piled on my bagel with cream cheese onions, tomato and thinly sliced cucumber made one fine meal.

The Buddah ($10.99):
They don't skimp on the pastrami, they layer it on with chicken liver, chopped hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, onions, coleslaw and Russian dressing. As the waiter says, "anything's good with Russian dressing." Well, this sure was anyway. I also really liked their coleslaw. It has a nice hint of vinegar in it's crunchy tangle of cabbage and carrot.

Rugelah (75¢ each):
These little house made sweet cookie rolls come in a variety of flavors. I had the apricot, peanut butter chocolate and walnut raisin. They were all good, but the walnut raisin was the best of these dense, sweet, spirals.

Miller's flies in half cooked bagels from New York and finish them in their ovens (although on this visit they ran out and served local ones.) They also source their tasty fish from the big apple.

They have an extensive menu that goes way beyond fish plates and sandwiches. They roast turkeys, stuff cabbages, make entrée salads and soups.


Two and a half carrots out of four

It's a big event to find a good NY-style deli in Northern California, and this place delivers the goods. A must for those who need their chocolate egg cream fix.
